Postdoctoral Scholar, Islamic Studies

The University of Chicago Divinity School invites applications for one-year Postdoctoral Scholars in Islamic Studies for the academic year of 2023-24.  There are two available positions.  The field of specialization within Islamic Studies is open.

Postdoctoral Scholars will be expected to conduct their own research towards a book or another project; to teach one quarter-long course; to reside in the Chicago area for the duration of the academic calendar year, September 26, 2023, through June 1, 2024; to participate actively in programming activities related to Islamic Studies through the Martin Marty Center for the Public Understanding of Religion, including writing a post for Sightings; to participate in the Council on Advanced Studies (CAS) workshop in Islamic Studies and present their work in one of the workshop sessions; to hone interview and job skills with UChicagoGRAD, an on-campus resource focused on guiding postdocs and graduate students towards professional satisfaction; and to participate actively in the life of the Divinity School community.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold the Ph.D. before the start of the appointment on September 1, 2023, and the Ph.D. must have been awarded since September 1, 2018.  Fluency in English and relevant Islamic language(s) is required.

Compensation

Postdoctoral Scholars will receive a salary of $70,000 plus a $1,500 research fund and $1,500 relocation expenses.
